Well, I use a thing called slingbox.

Slingbox is, well, a box that you hook up to your cable back home.  It’s pretty straightforward if you follow the instructions, and it works great.  Once you’ve got it hooked up, you register it on your computer, and you get a stream of cable TV.

I actually have two of them. One I hooked up to my Rogers Cable box, and the other to basic cable.  I live in Japan, and I can watch live Canadian cable whenever I want.

If you do want to use Slingbox, the faster your internet connection, the better.  But I don’t necessarily have the fastest connection possible, and it works fine.  One place I know has the Sligbox is Best Buy.
